Galvanized electrical conduit, also known as galvanized electrical pipe, is a metal conduit specifically designed for electrical applications. The most obvious difference between it and ordinary hot-dip galvanized pipe is its specialized connection structure, standard dimensions, and electrical grade precision. Typical classifications include RMC, IMC, and EMT, specifically designed for the protection of electrical wires and cables.
Glory Steel’s welded galvanized electrical conduit is fire-retardant, flame-retardant, and electromagnetic interference resistant, widely used in electrical engineering projects such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and security systems. Wall thickness, connection type, and zinc coating thickness can all be customized.

Its characteristics
- Corrosion Resistance – A common advantage of galvanized steel pipes, which protect carbon steel from atmospheric corrosion and extend their service life.
- High Strength/Impact Resistance – The carbon steel base resists external impacts and withstands loads such as compression, animal bites, soil pressure, and vehicle crushing.
- Electromagnetic Shielding – Shields against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI), protecting internal wiring from external electromagnetic fields, making it suitable for low-voltage, communication, and control systems.
- Easy Installation – Lightweight design supports various internationally recognized connection methods, such as threaded, crimped, and set connections, compatible with mainstream accessories.
- Fire Retardant – The metal material itself is non-combustible, providing temporary protection for cables in the early stages of a fire and slowing the spread of fire along the wiring.
- Temperature and Freeze Resistance – Can withstand prolonged transport of hot water above 100°C in freezing environments or high-temperature industrial settings without cracking due to low temperatures.

Its application areas
- Commercial Buildings: Lighting and wiring for office buildings, shopping malls, and hotels, used in ceilings or within walls.
- Industrial: Factory workshops, distribution cabinets, and machine power supply; suitable for scenarios with low vibration and fixed routes.
- Public Facilities: Electrical systems in airports, subway stations, hospitals, tunnels, schools, etc.
- Energy Centers: Separate high-voltage and low-voltage wiring for photovoltaic power stations, substations, and communication base stations; protection for main cables in computer rooms.
- Outdoor: Buried or exposed wiring protection for water pumps, high-humidity factories, and corrosive environments in chemical industrial sites.

What are its classifications?
1. Classification by mechanical strength
- RMC – Rigid Metal Conduit: Thickest wall thickness, highest strength, NPT threads at both ends, highest protection level, suitable for outdoor, underground, and heavy-duty industrial applications.
- IMC – Intermediate Metal Conduit: Medium wall thickness, NPT threads, strength close to RMC, lighter weight, and lower cost.
- EMT – Electrical Metallic Tubing: Thin-walled, unthreaded, uses compression or set-screw connections, lowest cost, suitable for indoor, residential, and ceiling applications.
- FMC/LFMC- Flexible conduit, spiral structure, bendable; LFMC with PVC waterproof sheath for equipment connections. (Note: Not part of the rigid galvanized electrical conduit series)

| Parameters | RMC | IMC | EMT |
| Wall thickness | 2.6–3.9mm | 1.8–2.5mm | 1.0–1.2mm |
| Thread type | Required Threaded | Required Threaded | None |
| Connection method | Threaded | Threaded | Crimping/Setting |
| Weight | Heaviest | Medium | Lightest |
| Price | Highest | Medium | Lowest |
| Typical applications | Outdoor/Underground/Industrial | Commercial/Light Industrial | Indoor/Residential |
2. Classification by connection method
- Threaded connection- Suitable for RMC and IMC pipes, providing a secure, waterproof, and dustproof connection suitable for heavy-duty environments.
- Compression connection- A US standard EMT connection, requiring no threading, quick installation, and compliant with NEC specifications.
- Set-Screw – Primarily used for Chinese standard JDG pipes, offering extremely fast installation; not commonly used with US standard EMT.

National Standard Correspondence (JDG / KBG / SC)
- JDG: GB/T 20041.1, Set-Screw type thin-walled steel conduit
- KBG: GB/T 20041.1, Compression type thin-walled steel conduit, Compression (crimping with special clamps)
- SC: GB/T 3091, Welded steel pipe, thick-walled, threaded connection, for buried or heavy-duty environments.
Connection Methods
- Threaded Connection: NPT/BSPT threads are machined at both ends of the pipe, and the connection is made using a fitting and a lock nut.
- Compression Connection: The conduit is inserted into the fitting, and the nut is tightened to compress it against the pipe wall.
- Set Screw Connection: A side-mounted screw is used to tighten against the pipe wall, achieving both fixation and grounding.
