Aluminum square tubing refers to square or rectangular hollow sections manufactured from aluminum alloy, also known as aluminium box section. Unlike steel tubes, it possesses natural anti-rust properties and requires no additional coating treatment. It also features lightweight characteristics, making it the top choice for lightweight construction applications such as door and window frames.
Glory Steel is a professional manufacturer of aluminum square tubing. We supply a full range of aluminum alloy grades, as well as square and rectangular aluminum tubes with various cross-sectional dimensions and wall thicknesses.

Product Features
Light Weight & High Strength
This is the most prominent advantage of aluminum tubing. Its density is only 2.7g/cm³. For tubes of identical dimensions, aluminum tubing weighs just one-third of steel tubing.
Outstanding Corrosion Resistance
A dense aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) film naturally forms on the aluminum surface to protect the substrate. It brings extremely low maintenance costs and extended service life.
Excellent Machinability & Weldability
Aluminum square tubes are integrally extruded from aluminum billets without longitudinal weld seams. They can be bent, welded and punched. Grades 6061 and 6063 are compatible with arc welding, spot welding and gas welding.
Good Thermal Conductivity
It delivers stable and efficient heat conduction when used in heat dissipation components for electronic, electrical and construction projects.

Recommended Applications for Typical Grades & Tempers
- 6063-T5: Mainly used for doors, windows, railings and lightweight decorative frames. Choose 6063-T52 for precision deep processing.
- 6061-T6 / 6082-T6: For industrial load-bearing structures such as machinery, columns and beams.
- 5052-H32: Suitable for coastal, humid, chemical and marine environments.
- 5005-H14/H24: Preferred decorative alloy for colored finishes including red, yellow, blue and green.
- 5754-H22/H32: Sheet metal components for automobiles, trains, subways and high-speed rails.
- 7075-T6/T651: Premium high-strength applications requiring both light weight and superior load-bearing capacity.
Common Tempers of Aluminum Square Tubing
Definition of Temper
Temper is a universal industry term worldwide. The same aluminum alloy will obtain different hardness, tensile strength and bending performance after distinct forming and heat treatment processes. Temper designations are used to distinguish these mechanical properties.
Aluminum alloys are divided into two major categories based on whether their strength can be enhanced by heat treatment, corresponding to different temper codes:
- Series 6 & Series 7 Alloys: Heat-treatable alloys (e.g. 6061, 6063, 7075), marked with T or O prefixes.
- Series 1, Series 3 & Series 5 Alloys: Non-heat-treatable alloys, only hardened by cold rolling (e.g. 5052, 5005, 1060, 3003), marked with H or O prefixes.
Tempers for Series 6 & Series 7 Alloys
- T5: Stable mechanical performance with medium-to-high strength. 6063-T5 features good ductility and accounts for a large export volume.
- T6: The most widely used high-strength temper, adopted for 6061-T6 and 6082-T6. It offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio for industrial load-bearing parts, with lower plasticity than T5.
- T4: Better formability than T6 but lower tensile strength. Ideal for medium-load structures, cold bending and secondary processing.
- O Temper: The softest temper with minimum strength, suitable for deep stamping, bending and complex forming.

Tempers for Series 5 Alloys
“H” stands for strain hardening via cold rolling.
- The first digit after H: Type of hardening process
- The second digit after H: Degree of hardening
Types of Hardening Treatment
- H1: Cold rolled and strain hardened only, without subsequent annealing or stabilizing treatment.
- H2: Cold rolled and hardened, then partially annealed to restore ductility.
- H3: Cold rolled and hardened, then stabilized. This temper is applied to 5052 and 5083 to prevent cracking during long-term storage.
Hardening Degree
The second digit after H indicates the hardening level; higher numbers represent higher hardness and lower ductility:
- 2 = 1/4 Hard
- 4 = 1/2 Hard
- 6 = 3/4 Hard
- 8 = Full Hard
Tempers for Series 1 & Series 3 Alloys
These grades have no heat-treated T tempers, only O, H14 and H24 available; H14 and H24 are standard half-hard tempers.
