Sch 40 galvanized steel pipe is the most widely used standard-wall-thickness pipe internationally. It complies with the ASME B36.10M American standard wall thickness series and differs from Russian GOST and European Union EN pipe standards. With its moderate wall thickness and pressure-bearing capacity, it is the material of choice for drainage pipes, fire protection pipes, and similar applications.
Glory Steel is a professional manufacturer and supplier of SCH 40 galvanized steel pipe in China. We use carbon steels such as Q195, Q235, and Q345, or equivalent materials like S235 and S275, and offer comprehensive customization options for pipe diameter, wall thickness, length, and end finishing.

What is SCH 40?
SCH stands for “Schedule,” derived from the U.S. standard wall thickness grading system. This classification is used to distinguish the pressure-bearing capacity of pipes with different wall thicknesses—the higher the number following “SCH,” the thicker the pipe wall and the higher the pressure rating.

SCH 40 belongs to the standard wall thickness grade (Standard, abbreviated as STD). In addition to SCH 40, common grades include SCH 10, SCH 20, SCH 30 (thin-wall series), and SCH 80 (heavy-wall series), each suitable for operating conditions with different pressure ratings.

| 1″ | DN25 | 33.4 | 3.38 |
| 1-1/2″ | DN40 | 48.3 | 3.68 |

Key Differences Between SCH40 and SCH80
For the same outer diameter, their flanges and fittings are interchangeable; the only differences are in wall thickness, pressure rating, and weight.
- SCH40: Standard wall thickness (STD). Suitable for low- to medium-pressure applications; a versatile specification offering high cost-effectiveness and low cost.
- SCH80: Extra-thick wall thickness (XS). Designed for high-pressure applications, including heavy-duty, structural, and steam piping.

Advantages
- Superior Corrosion Resistance: Our continuous hot-dip galvanized pipes feature a zinc-iron alloy layer on the surface of the carbon steel pipe. The coating is durable, crack-resistant, and won’t peel off, significantly extending the service life.
- Stable Pressure Rating: Maximum working pressure ranges from 2.76 MPa to 5.86 MPa, making them well-suited for the transportation of conventional fluids or media.
- High Compatibility: Our steel pipes meet international fitting standards, allowing you to purchase with confidence according to engineering requirements. We support all types of machining, including end processing.
- High Cost-Effectiveness: Factory prices are stable within the range of $500–$820 per metric ton, with slight fluctuations based on material and certification requirements. Please feel free to send your specifications to request a same-day quote.

Applications
- Fire Protection Systems: Red plastic-coated SCH40 galvanized pipes used for fire protection systems in schools, shopping malls, and residential basements.
- Water/Oil and Gas Transportation: Cold water transportation, low-pressure oil and gas transportation, and drainage systems for modular homes and container camps.
- Agriculture and Industry: Greenhouse support pipes, irrigation water supply pipes, and fencing pipes for cattle and horse ranches. Support pipes for factory storage tanks.
- Construction and Infrastructure: Scaffolding pipes for building renovations, factory supports, and auxiliary bridge supports.
- Agriculture and Greenhouses: Greenhouse fencing and farmland irrigation pipelines.

Production Process
Steel pipes under this standard are galvanized straight-seam resistance-welded pipes, produced through a fully automated forming process, ensuring precise dimensions and full, uniform welds.
Q235B steel coil → Slitting → High-frequency welding and forming → Sizing and straightening → Cutting to length → Full-length hot-dip galvanizing → Hydrostatic testing → Eddy current testing → Sealing and bundling
Pipe End Finishing Options: We offer a variety of finishes, including plain ends, threaded ends, grooved ends, and beveled ends.
